Just a few hours after Qualcomm announced its latest processor, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau confirmed that the next-generation flagship series will run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen1 chipset.
Lau has stated in his personal Weibo webpage on Weibo that the latest chispet would be integrated into the company’s next generation phones (via PhoneArena). The OnePlus 10 and 10 Pro weren’t mentioned. OnePlus 10 and 10 Pro however, that’s the name of the next phone from OnePlus will likely be called.
The new OnePlus 10 Pro’s supposed renderings surfaced in the last month and showed a design which appeared to be an inspiration from that of the Samsung Galaxy S21. The renders showed a different rear camera setup than previously seen on OnePlus models.
As of now, five phones have been verified to feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. The processor will be utilized in the next generation of smartphones from OPPO, OnePlus’ sister company, for the forthcoming Oppo Find X4. In addition, the same chip will power the coming Xiaomi 12 series, Motorola Edge X30 as well as The Realme GT 2 series.
The 4nm-based processor is anticipated to perform better than its predecessor model, the Snapdragon 888 with a boost of up to 40 percent. Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Snapdragon 8 Generation 1 features the latest 3GHz ARM Cortex X2 high performance core along with a 4x increase in AI performance, thanks to Qualcomm’s 7th generation Qualcomm AI Engine.
It’s not too surprising that OnePlus will feature the latest SoC in its forthcoming flagship models, just as was the case with its OnePlus 9 series. OnePlus has yet to release any details regarding specifications for the OnePlus 10 series’ specifications.
With Qualcomm’s latest chip that is in development, OnePlus’ next-generation devices are expected to be able beat the top Android phones in the coming year, including those from the Samsung Galaxy S22 series. The phone is expected to make its first appearance in April 2022.
