Qualcomm has announced a new low cost 5G processor, Snapdragon 690 processor. This is the first 5G enabled processor in the Snapdragon 600 series. This chipset will be the successor to the Snapdragon 675 and has 20% increase in CPU performance and a 60% increase in GPU performance compared to its predecessor.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 5G Processor
The new Snapdragon 690 5G chipset is made from 8nm process and it has Snapdragon X51 modem inside it that brings support for sub-6GHz networks. Other exclusive tech in the processor include new AI engine called ARCSOFT that includes a Hexagon Tensor Accelerator which makes real-time rich media usage smooth.
The new processor supports FHD+ displays with a 120Hz refresh rate and support for 4K video recording at 30fps and stills up to 192MP. It supports Quick Charge 4+ and support for Wi-Fi 6 thanks to Qualcomm’s FastConnect 6200. We expect many phone manufacturers to adopt this new mid-range processor for its upcoming devices.
The year 2020 is the year of 5G affordable smartphones getting launched and by 2021 , we think almost all devices launched worldwide will come with 5G support as default.
