Nexus and Pixel devices gets Android 7.1.2 Nougat Update

Android 7.1.2 Nougat Update rolling out for Nexus and Pixel devices

 

Earlier this week, Google announced the roll out of Android 7.1.2 Nougat update for Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones. The company has also made the factory images and OTA files for the update available for eligible Nexus and Pixel devices on their developer website.This update which is expected to be continued over the course of next few weeks will also have the April Android security update bundled along.

The OTA files on the website are currently available for below devices:

  • Nexus 5X
  • Nexus 6P
  • Nexus Player
  • Pixel
  • Pixel XL
  • Pixel C

The 7.1.2 Nougat update should fix few critical issue which has been bugging Nexus and Pixel series smartphones.For the Pixel series phones, Android 7.1.2 Nougat update fixes the following:

  1. The early shutdown issue
  2. Pink banding on the camera
  3. Audio popping issue some users were experiencing at high volume

Apart from these minor bug fixes, added features, and general performance and stability improvements are also part of the update.Some of the improvements include an enhanced fingerprint swipe performance, Bluetooth connectivity improvements, and battery usage alerts.
For Nexus users, the Android 7.1.2 Nougat update comes with similar bug fixes, performance and stability improvements.
The April Android security update which comes along with this brings numerous minor fixes as detailed in the version log present in the website.One of the most critical issues that this security patch fixes is a vulnerability that could enable remote code execution on an affected device through various methods including as email, Web browsing, and MMS when processing media files.
As mentioned earlier, the OTA roll-out will be done over the next few weeks so people who cannot wait till then can head over to Android developer website. website and manually download the factory image files.The informed bunch can perform the update manually using the image file, for others its better to wait.Also, its advisable to take a backup of your data before doing manual update.
