Suspicious Link feature introduced by WhatsApp will help curb fake news

Recently, there has been news about mob lynching around the country due to some fake news circulating in WhatsApp about child kidnappers. As many people have died, the Indian Government has advised WhatsApp to take action and measures to control this issue. Now, WhatsApp is testing a new feature called Suspicious Link which will help to alert you when the links or news shared is incorrect or fake.

Suspicous Link Feature

Currently this feature is spotted WhatsApp 2.18.204beta version. Once its present, if you receive any link to a website in whatsapp, the app will perform an automatic background check on its authenticity. In case, if the link is of suspicious nature, the message will be marked in red color which will indicate that either its’s spam /phishing link or is redirecting to a fake website.

One can expect WhatsApp to roll-out this feature very soon to all users. Earlier, WhatsApp had introduced few features like giving more permission to Group Admins for better control and also ‘Forward Label’ feature which allow users to know if the message has been written or forwarded.
