Amid the Corono pandemic crisis, for both business and personal needs people are using video call to connect with each other. WhatsApp, Skype, Google Duo and the new Zoom App have become very popular among many people. Many apps have upgraded their software to offer better connectivity and support more people in call. Likewise, Google Duo the video calling app from the search giant has updated it app by introducing new AV1 codec for better call quality.
Google Duo AV1 Codec Support
As per the update from Google, the AV1 codec will give a significant increase in the video call quality from the current version. This update also help with video call stability. Apart from this feature, the latest update also brings a new photo mode for Duo starting today so you can capture and then share side-by-side photos of you and one other person on your call.

On top of this and due to the increased usage of the App during this crisis, Google says it’s changing its policy on those video messages, which can be recorded and sent to friends for viewing after-the-fact, so that they can be saved automatically instead of expiring after 24 hours. Finally, the new AV1 codec is currently supporting single face to face call. As per Google, this will be extended to group calls as well. Also another update from the company states that the app will support up to 12 participants group calling very soon. It should be recalled, only last month the group call limit was increased from 4 participants to 8 people.
