Facebook Face Recognition

Facebook Face Recognition Feature

As per company, once you opt-in for this feature the activity starts at the background. So whenever you upload a photo in Facebook, its machine learning systems will measure our face characteristics  and produce something call ‘face print’. This will be unique for each individual.

With this face print, Facebook can search, identify and tag you on photos you haven’t been earlier. Also, it can tell you if another user uploads your picture as their profile image and flag it. This way Facebook can detect fraud and its one of the feature’s benefit. If you need more details, check the Facebook blog posts here.

How to use it

As mentioned earlier, this feature has already started popping in your timeline giving us a notifications. As default setting, you are already Opt-in for this feature by Facebook automatically. To check this, Go to Facebook Settings- > Face Recognition option.

Once you select, the new window will have the option of Opt-in or Opt-out based on your choice.

The feature may cause privacy concerns among users, so Facebook has advised to read their blog here to understand how your ‘face print’ and photos will be used and what will happen when you Opt-in or Opt-out in detail.

Currently this feature is an optionally one, but we have a feeling after few months Facebook may make this a mandatory Opt-in for this feature. So let s know what you think about this new feature from Facebook.
