Facebook Express Wi-Fi Program extends beyond India. Now in Indonesia and Kenya

Facebook Express Wi-Fi is a program which allows users to purchase internet connection from participating business as of need basis instead of paying expensive price for full plan. The program was targeted towards developing nations to provide faster internet speed at cheaper price.

However, the program was not a great success in India where it was launched initially due to price of data charges got considerably reduced thanks to Jio’s entry about 18 months back. Also if you want to use the Express Wi-Fi Program in India, one has to download an app from specific telecom and configure the settings in phone which was tedious process. Now, this program is introduced in Indonesia and Kenya where you can use it just by downloading an app from Google Play Store.

How Facebook Express Wi-Fi works

Express Wi-Fi will pinpoint the places which sells internet connections. These are named ‘Wi-Fi Zones’ and the users can choose any one of these zone near to his location. Once connected, users can browse, download or stream content based on their needs by paying a small price. There is the option of free connection where you can browse only Facebook and its services. It should be noted that this method was heavily criticized by many experts and also let to source of ‘fake news’.

So, as long as the program serves its actual purpose of providing cheap data for users in developing nations like Kenya and Indonesia where the internet penetration is still less, I see people paying for them.
